A family who had lost 2 children was able to have a healthy child.
A female had a healthy pregnancy and childbirth twice. However at both times, children became sick after a few days of birth, requiring ICU care and respiratory support, gradually the sickness level increased and they succumbed to death. Family was anxious as the cause of these deaths were not clear. The fear of having the same fate in the next child made the couple unwilling to plan for another pregnancy. However, after a consultation with a Clinical geneticist, it is possible to make a diagnosis of the deceased children. Their worries were put to rest as they were presented various options in regards to having a healthy child. The couple carrier screen helped in forming the diagnosis of a neurometabolic disorder in the children who could not survive. The couple received counselling sessions and support as to how to proceed for a planned healthy pregnancy with spontaneous natural conception. The sessions facilitated them in having a family, they are now parents to a child who is unaffected, healthy and living.
